Welcome!

Welcome to Colbert Presbyterian Church Co-Op Preschool! We take great joy in the privilege of coming alongside preschoolers as they learn, as well as in communicating God’s deep love for children.

Colbert’s Co-Op Preschool is a play-based environment with an emphasis on learning through play and exploration in the arts, science, and nature. We delight in helping preschoolers develop and learn, engaging their intuitive sense of wonder and natural areas of interest as we discover our world together.  Additionally, it is our desire that each child knows he or she is wonderfully made by God and deeply loved. Finally, we hope to be a supportive presence for parents and families as our preschoolers learn, grow, and have fun together. Please feel free to peruse our preschool philosophy, general information, and basic daily schedule for more information.

God bless,

Janelle Probst-Keller

Parent Involvement & Expectations.

Parents are an integral part of the co-op learning experience. Your help allows us to keep the costs low, as well as incorporate many different areas of parent interest and expertise. Generally speaking, parents can expect to help in the classroom one day per week + spend an additional 1-2 hours a month of planning and prep.

  • Help in the classroom once per week, leading a learning station or activity and providing support throughout the morning

  • Attend monthly parent meeting

  • Support and pray for steering team and other families

  • Grandparents or other caregivers may help in the classroom in the place of parents/guardians

Preschool Director.

Our Preschool Director leads the preschool, supports, encourages, and communicates with parents, organizes daily learning and weekly themes, runs monthly parent meetings, teaches daily circle time, and prays for preschoolers and their families.

Learning and growing as children of God.

Daily Schedule

We meet three days a week, and each day follows approximately the same schedule. That being said, both flexibility and structure are vital when working with preschoolers, so it can be expected that some days the schedule will change depending on circumstances and weather. Occasionally, we will also have “special days” in which we do something different altogether.

Free Choice Play 9:30-10:00

Including dramatic play, building bricks, the art room, a book nook, a game center, etc

Circle Time 10:00-10:20

Including weather and calendar, fingerplays and songs, show and tell, and story time.

Snack 10:20-10:40

Indoors or outdoors, depending on the weather.

Outside Time 10:40-11:10

Lots of free time, play, exploration in the woods, and some organized games.

Learning Stations 11:10-12:00

Stations generally consisting of 2 learning stations a day, rotating through the categories below:

  • Bible (including stories, songs and worship, weekly Bible verse, and dramatic play)

  • Letter familiarity (including letter sounds, games, writing, crafts and creating personal ABC books)

  • Science, Art, and Math concepts (stations will rotate through these different focuses and will include hands-on science projects, fun with numbers and counting, process-based art projects, and exploring and learning about nature)

Cleanup & Closing Games 12:00-12:15

Janelle Probst-Keller — Preschool Director

My name is Janelle. I am a busy mom of 4 and firefighter wife. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Over the years I’ve taught in a variety of roles, including as a preschool teacher at Whitworth Presbyterian Church, lead ECEAP teacher at the Salish School of Spokane, and Mead School District substitute teacher. I’m excited to be working with kids this coming year as the Preschool Director for Colbert Presbyterian Cooperative Preschool. I love developing fun, engaging, hands-on curriculum. I believe that if we meet each child where they’re at and attend to their emotional, developmental, and sensory needs, what they are able to learn is limitless. I look forward to working with families to create a welcoming learning environment full of love and support for each child.
