In 1997 Whitworth Presbyterian and 11 other host churches joined in a program called Interfaith Hospitality Network, now Family Promise.  a small administrative staff is now supported by 22 Spokane area churches, including Colbert Presbyterian.

Family Promise keeps homeless families together in Spokane and helps them search for housing and employment.  The churches provide sleeping accommodations, breakfast and an evening meal for a week.  Two hosts stay overnight at the church to assist with emergencies.  A van driver transports kids to their schools and takes parents to the Family Promise office.

In June, members of a Colbert Presbyterian Bible study group and another Colbert friend provided the dinner and overnight hosts at Whitworth Presbyterian Church.

These families don't have the connections most of us do.  Connections occur naturally around a church.  We heard about cars repaired, jobs and apartments found and opportunities for homeless children to go to church camp made by connections with church members and Family Promise staff.

Colbert's next chance to help out at Whitworth church will be during the first week in September.  If you feel called to this mission, please contact Jim Bellis at  Maybe you are one of the contacts God is choosing to make a lifetime impact on a homeless family.
