Prayer Request

Each year the Mission Committee financially and prayerfully supports our youth mission endeavors. Over the last few years the youth have done spring break mission trips and service projects in San Francisco, Portland, Costa Rica and Lyons, OR. These trips challenge our youth spiritually and physically. Amazing growth happens when we take kids out of their daily routines and open their eyes to needs that they can help meet.

Most recently, the youth took a trip to Upward Bound, a Christian Camp for kids with disabilities in Lyons, OR. We cleared trails, planted a garden, painted cabins and cleaned bathrooms. Most importantly, we spent time with Upward Bound staff and campers, learning from their example of how to serve with love and humility. Two years ago, we ventured to San Jose, Costa Rica to work beside 6:8 Ministries, a local mission organization. The majority of our time was spent building a Mercy House for a single mom with nowhere to live. The goal of Mercy Houses is to provide safe and clean housing for the poorest of the poor. With the help of the mission committee and the congregation, we raised $5,000 to fully fund the building of the house. We also served food at a feeding center, taught English lessons and did a prayer walk around the neighborhood of the Mercy House. Now the Colbert youth have established a relationship with 6:8 Ministries and we will be going back this spring break for a similar trip.
