In 1997 Whitworth Presbyterian Church (WPC) and eleven other churches joined in a program called Interfaith Hospitality Network, now Family Promise. The small administrative staff is now supported by twenty two Spokane area churches, including Colbert Presbyterian (CPC).

The Family Promise staff operates from a rental property and they use a van to transport their clients. The $160,000 budget is met by donations, fundraising events, and a county grant. More
information about FP can be found on their web site at www.familypromiseofspokane.org. They can also be reached at 509-747-5487.

Family Promise keeps homeless families together in Spokane and helps clients search for housing and employment. Families go through a background check and and are evaluated for their fitness to stay in the program for an extended time. The churches provide sleeping accommodations, breakfast, and an evening meal for a week.

In June, CPC joined WPC in hosting families quarterly. The churches provide food, drivers, and hosts for each evening. CPC was responsible for one night in July and two nights in September.

The point of contact for CPC's participation in Family Promise is Jim Bellis (tel. 466-0971 or jbellis2@comcast.net
